The origin of Voice of World can be traced back to early 40's during 2nd World War when Late Prabir Gupta, a visionary, founded a magazine after the same name. The magazine sounded a clarion call to the world for ending the war and urged universal peace and brotherhood.
Voice of World in its present form was set up in the house of Late Prabir Gupta located in North Kolkata,
India way back in 1992 with the sole aim of serving the suffering humanity in general and the visually handicapped in particular. Its primary aim is to break down the sense of isolation and alienation the handicapped are suffering from and merge them with the main stream of life by instilling in them a positive attitude towards self-actualisation and self-reliance.
It is an organisation run fully on the support and participation of highly motivated volunteers. Funded completely by donations from the members of the public and the corporate world, Voice of World encompasses a wide variety of services and assistance offered particularly to the visually impaired.
In the formative stage, it rendered educational services by arranging Readers, Writers and setting up Braille Book (hand embossed) and Talking Book Libraries. With passage of time and to meet the ever-growing demand, Voice of World started its South Kolkata Centre in 1998 in another house of Late Prabir Gupta. Residential Kindergarten School, Braille Press and Library are located here.
The prime mover of Voice of World is its Founder Secretary Ms. Gargi
Gupta, Daughter of Late Prabir Gupta, the former is a deeply dedicated
and highly industrious social activist of Kolkata.
