Bikaimaa Home for the sightless - Residential Kindergarten School
The residential kindergarten school was set up in 1998 at our South Kolkata centre. We have now 20 blind students in our rolls, the youngest being only 3 years of age. Personal care is taken for their welfare and teaching, which 3 visually handicapped hands manage supported additionally by volunteer services from the neighborhood homes. Qualified hands also impart singing and dancing lessons here. The school has been recognised as an Educational Institution for the visually impaired by Directorate of Mass Education Extension and Directorate of Social Welfare, Govt. of West Bengal.

Braille Press - Computerised Braille Embosser
Braille Press was inaugurated in 1998 with the acquisition of a computerised Braille Embosser. Since inception this is being used extensively for embossing school and college text books, story books and books on general topics. Embossing of Bengali and English literature by our Braille Press has opened up a new horizon of hope, to the blind persons in this part of India. This is the first of its kind to function in eastern India run by a social welfare organisation.

Braille Book Library and Talking Book Library
Located in our North Kolkata centre, our library now holds over 500 books, hand embossed and with continuing production we are confident of establishing this section as a valuable resource in the years to come. We now have over 1000 audio cassettes in our Talking Book Library covering a wide range of topics. This section is now in the process of remaking the worn out cassettes as an ongoing exercise.

Adult Education Scheme
This branch of activity was started in 1996. Under this scheme, school and college drop-outs and others who have had their education disrupted for some reason or other are being prepared for school leaving and college level examinations. The students also learn here cooking, dancing, instrumental music and singing.

Trekking, Nature Study and Wildlife Camps
This is a very popular branch of our multifaceted activities. With participation as high as 40 visually impaired persons, these camps bring about all-round developments in the mental and physical faculties of the handicapped individuals.
