Website: Cyclone 'Fani' has recently cast a spell of devastation in Puri. The Puri centre of 'Voice of World' was also not spared and it has been badly damaged by the catastrophic storm.
Our Puri centre is located at Baliapanda, near the Lighthouse in Puri where we have a Residential set-up for the Underprivileged Differently-abled and a Charitable Pre-Primary School which caters the local fishermen community.
There was an Evacuation Warning for all inhabitants of the whole area before the arrival of devastating cyclone and accordingly we evacuated and brought all the residential beneficiaries of our centre to Kolkata.
The extent of damage of the infrastructure of our Puri centre has been quite serious with major part of the boundary wall collapsing, most of the asbestos sheets of the school building and residential building blown away and parts of the building severely damaged. The Electrical connection has also snapped due to high velocity wind and storm.
We have visited the centre post cyclone to assess the extent of damage and are quite depressed as as per our assessment the loss is in excess of Rs.10 lakhs.
We are still in a state of shock...... We simply do not know how to meet the expenses for the reconstruction and from where to get the funds from.
With each day passing, the education for the children is getting hampered as we are still not being able to reopen the school. The residential beneficiaries are also needed to be relocated back to the centre as early as possible.
Thus, under any circumstances the repair/ reconstruction work has to be started immediately.
In view of above we appeal to all our Well Wishers to support us financially so that we can complete the reconstruction and restore the centre as early as possible.
